Daria Dawidziak is a PhD candidate in the College of Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences of University of Warsaw. She shares her work on PhD project between Core Facility of Crystallography and Biophysics and Laboratory of RNA Biology and Functional Genomics supervised respectively by prof. Krzysztof Woźniak and prof. Andrzej Dziembowski. In her PhD she is studying structure and function of human FASTK protein - important post-transcriptional regulator of mitochondrial gene expression. Through research projects at Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroclaw and in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia she acquired many skills in the field of structural biology and crystallography. She is experienced in bacterial recombinant protein overexpression, protein purification (affinity chromatography, automated FPLC), protein functional assays, protein crystallization (vapor diffusion method, optimization of crystallization conditions), structural biology studies (preliminary structure determination) but also in mammalian cell cultures handling and techniques like FACS.
